It’s time to talk about the “M” word… No, not mortgages. I’m talking about MENOPAUSE.

Quite a few women of all ages inside and outside of our firm are working while simultaneously navigating their changing bodies and minds through menopause. And silently. Because that’s what the world has taught them to do.

But this is a REAL thing and it has a HUGE impact on lots of women – brain fog, anxiety, increased stress and high emotions to name a few. So we NEED to talk about it and raise awareness.

So this morning, I am talking about the M word, not mortgages for a change. I am talking about menopause. Now this is possibly not the topic you were expecting me to bring up this morning, but in our annual performance reviews in The Mortgage Mum, one of the main things that came up for us as a big action point for us as a business was menopause. Lots of women in our team and outside of our team are suffering from menopause and are covering it up. It shows up in completely different ways for every single person. And I think as businesses, we really do need to have a responsibility to be talking about this and supporting. Menopause can give you a lot of anxiety. It can give you huge brain fog. One of our ladies described it that her brain felt broken.

It can be really frightening if you don’t know what it is and you just think there’s something up, there’s something wrong. I don’t know what it is. I don’t feel right. So as a business, we are doing a lot of research on menopause, we’re getting experts in, we’re having the expert on the podcast because we feel a duty of care to our team to understand it better so that we can see how we can support. It’s not about necessarily not working when you’re going through the menopause because it can last for a very long time, but it’s just about the awareness so that we know, and they know what to expect and to give themselves a bit of room while they’re having those sensations or emotions that can make you extremely emotional. I think it’s something we should all be talking about, so I am putting it out there today to just raise the question. Are you a woman who is working through your menopause and working at the same time? What are the struggles that you have? Let’s share. Let’s talk about it because the more we share and even in the team, just seeing them share with each other was so powerful. So yeah, let’s start sharing more about the M word, not mortgages.
