TV Mortgage expert, singer, speaker, movement creator, top 10 mortgage podcaster and last, but certainly no means least, a mum. Sarah is the Founder and Managing Director of The Mortgage Mum, a business born from her passion and commitment to using her voice—metaphorically and literally, as in 2019, she appeared in Series 8 of the ITV television show, The Voice UK, making it through to The Knockouts with superstar Jennifer Hudson as her mentor.

Since her first TV appearance, Sarah has used her platform to educate consumers about mortgages and money mindfully and holistically. She is passionate about female empowerment, in finances and beyond, helping to deliver a fresh perspective in an often male-dominated industry. Never afraid of navigating deep topics, she regularly tackles tough conversations around the housing market, mental health, finances, menopause and how women are impacted in the work environment.

Combining her knowledge as an industry expert, with her unique approach as a leader, she has built a multi-award-winning business and is an established figure and thought leader within the UK mortgage industry, often sharing her insights and perspectives on ITV’s This Morning and other TV outlets, and for leading publications such as BBC, ITV, Channel 5, Good Housekeeping, The Sunday Express, The Evening Standard, Yahoo Finance, The Sun and Metro, and regular commentary for industry news outlets; Mortgage Strategy, Mortgage Solutions and Mortgage Introducer.

At home, Sarah is a mum of 3 beautiful children, having recently returned from maternity leave. Sarah is a huge promoter of balance and so she makes time to pursue her other passions as a singer, a speaker, and a lover of all things spiritual. Sarah is a Reiki II practitioner and a fan of crystals. She enjoys yoga, meditation, women’s circles and the gym as well as her favourite activity – family time.

After bringing up two boys Sally was ready for a new career challenge but struggled to find something fulfilling yet flexible. Her brother suggested mortgage broking, putting her in touch with Sarah and The Mortgage Mum movement. After speaking to Sarah, it seemed the obvious fit. Sally qualified as a mortgage broker in August 2020.

Sally’s background is Recruitment and Property Development. She has always had a keen interest in property and has renovated and refurbished her own homes whilst living in the UK, Spain and the US. She understands that life doesn’t always go according to plan and is very keen to help guide people through the more turbulent times of change. She is a massive organiser and maker of To Do Lists. Sally loves to take the stress off her clients so they can concentrate on the more exciting aspects.

“I have been lucky enough to have a home that has been a haven and happy base for my family over the years. It has been a constant source of security and emotional balm to me and the boys throughout all the change life brings. I would like everyone to experience that. Whether it’s finding your first property, a new purchase or remodelling your much-loved home – it can be a stressful time. I want to help people enjoy the process and support them every step of the way”

In 2023 Sally acted as Business Manager in The Mortgage Mum, during the period of maternity leave for the Managing Director, Sarah Tucker. She was incredible in successfully using her management skills and business experience to drive the brand further. She believes The Mortgage Mum is at the beginning of a very exciting and successful future and she is thrilled to be part of the journey.

Sally enjoys the country life: walking Ollie her labrador, riding and gardening. She practices yoga and Pilates to keep mind and body in balance and loves dance, art and the theatre.

Sonya is an Award-Winning Senior Mortgage Broker and Mentor at The Mortgage Mum.

Sonya is from a large close-knit family whom she adores dearly and spends a lot of her time with. Sonya is one for a positive mindset and is a self-development obsessive! She also enjoys fine-dining with her husband and going for long walks in the countryside or along the beach thanks to her location!

“People are scared to seek advice because of the fear of judgement or because they don’t understand the industry—and I don’t blame them. The complex jargon, constant changes to compliance regulations and the numerous variables which can affect an application can make mortgages baffling. I knew I wanted to help change it. I’d heard the phrase “if only I’d known” too many times and so I turned my frustrations into actions and started my journey to becoming qualified so that I could make this information not only understandable, but accessible.”

In addition, Sonya is an industry speaker and is passionate about raising awareness on topics such as diversity and inclusion.

Sonya is an avid reader of Vogue and describes herself as a self-development obsessive. When Sonya isn’t arranging mortgages, you will find her either fine dining with her husband or in loungewear surrounded by candles with a cup of tea.

Mum to three boys, Shelley Walker was the first Mortgage Mum to join our movement in 2019. Shelley trained to be a mortgage broker as she wanted a career that could give her a better work life balance while raising a young family.

With nearly 20 years of experience in Local Government, ranging from providing Housing Advice to commissioning multi-million pound services, Shelley’s passion for helping people shines through as she strives to find the best solution for each of her mortgage customers. Her energy and tenacious approach to resolving cases, whether complex or straightforward, make her a real asset to The Mortgage Mum.

Shelley says:

“I want to be in a job where I can really make a difference to people’s lives. Getting the right mortgage can free up so much money for people to do the things they love to do with their families. I’ve been able to identify incredible savings on remortgages and help people to buy their first homes. It’s such a feeling of accomplishment when you know you’ve got the best possible mortgage offer for someone.”

Shelley loves the simple things in life – family time, catching up with friends, walks by the sea. She likes to relax through practicing Yoga, Reiki and having a weekend away whenever possible.

Gemma Bennett decided to join the team at The Mortgage Mum in 2021 after completing her industry qualifications in the lockdown of 2020 whilst pregnant with her daughter. With Gemma’s son starting school and a brand-new baby due in the September, Gemma was inspired by the ethos of The Mortgage Mum and keen to take advantage of the flexible and empowering working environment whilst relishing the opportunity to challenging her mind and skillset in a whole new way!

Gemma has worked for over 10 years as a CBT counsellor and holistic therapist. Specialising in stress management and helping people work through difficult emotions and find their personal authenticity and joy within their everyday. Gemma has enjoyed this work for some time and feels the move into property finance is just another way of supporting and helping people in their journey of life.

‘You may think mortgage broking is a far cry from my counselling and holistic work. It turns out it is not. Not the way I do it anyway. When I am on a case, I work holistically for my client’s needs. Supporting them emotionally through the stresses and triumphs of home purchasing or re financing and of course my all-time favourite thing, problem solving!! Facilitating someone’s hopes and dreams is hugely rewarding all round but enabling them to feel in control and powerful in the process is so important to me!’

Gemma felt the property buying process was often missing a sense of inclusion and transparency. A feeling that only those ‘in the know’, or that fitted a certain criteria were in favour. ‘Having been self-employed and a business owner for many years I understand the struggles many face or that they feel they’ll face when looking for a suitable mortgage. It shouldn’t be that way’. Gemma is keen to make home financing a less intimidating and more accessible process.

‘There’s usually a way and people need to feel educated in the route that suits them best without feeling overwhelmed by it.’

Gemma is a lover of all things that satisfy her soul! So will frequently spice up her life with creative or active hobbies. Performing arts is near and dear to Gemma’s heart and she involves herself in a local improvised comedy group, dance classes and even tries her had at aerial hoop occasionally. In line with Gemma’s holistic therapies, she regularly attends and runs wellbeing workshops for meditation and empowerment and is also keen on exercising in the Gym. Together with her husband Paul, Gemma owns a local personal training studio and Gym in the heart of leigh on sea.

‘Health and wellbeing is so important to us as a family. In every aspect, the body mind and soul!’

We are extremely proud that Gemma achieved an incredible win at the SFI Awards 2022 for “The Together Rising Star Award for Brokers”.

After 15 years of running her own businesses within the wedding industry, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Kim decided to embark on a new career path. A self-confessed numbers geek, it was predominantly the problem solving and analytical parts of wedding planning she enjoyed the most, and a new foray into the world of mortgages seemed like a natural step; guiding her clients through another major life event.

Kim believes a house is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a place where memories are made, dreams realised and comfort is sought. An accomplished stylist, her designs have graced the pages of many a magazine and she loves nothing more than immersing herself in interiors and garden inspiration. She is currently renovating her forever home with her husband and two boys – an 18th century cottage and walled garden in the heart of the Sussex countryside.

“Businesses in the wedding industry are predominantly female-owned and one of the key appeals of being a Mortgage Mum was the opportunity to continue to work alongside empowered and empowering women. Sarah’s journey is so inspiring, and she has created an incredible workplace for women like me to be a part of. My role as a mother is equally as important to me as my role as a business owner and I believe that the two can work well side by side in the right environment. I am known for my calming influence and ability to work under pressure; I love nothing more than guiding my clients through what can be a stressful time and making the process clear, straightforward and enjoyable”.

Zita Latham

Senior Mortgage Broker and Protection Advisor

Zita has worked in the financial services industry for over 10 years predominantly as a Mortgage Advisor in London and the South East. She originally worked in a different field, prior to her banking career she worked as an account manager for high-end brands and retailers such as Christian Dior, Givenchy, Natura Bissé in Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Fenwicks in London, and then, over ten years ago she felt she was ready for a career change and felt her skills would be well suited to banking and joined Barclays Bank as a personal banker. Once she joined the bank and learnt more about finance she realised that she wanted to do something meaningful in her career and being part of people’s major financial decisions, such as buying a property led her to mortgage advising. Once she completed her CeMAP qualification she joined the central London mortgage team at Barclays Bank and a few years later she joined Nationwide Building Society.

“I really enjoyed being a mortgage advisor but I realised that the options for clients were very limited since one bank has only one product range and lending policy which is often very restrictive for clients. This is when I became interested in mortgage broking.”

After extensive research she came across The Mortgage Mum and after learning about the founder and managing director, Sarah Tucker’s inspirational story she knew that this was the company she wanted to join. “The company represents values I believe in such as outstanding customer service, empathy and understanding. I strongly identify with The Mortgage Mum slogan: a mortgage is so much more than an interest rate. I have been through different stages of life, bought a few properties over the years and I know exactly the emotions people feel when they are purchasing a home or need to make changes to their existing mortgages. Being part of people’s life changing financial decisions is extremely rewarding.”

Charley O’Neill

Senior Mortgage and Protection Advisor

Charley, Mum of two, has worked in the financial services industry since leaving school. Initially she gained valuable experience providing a customer service role within HSBC, her career flourished, and she qualified as a Mortgage Adviser in 2015.

Maternity leave allowed time for reflection, Charley knew she found it frustrating being tied to one mortgage lender and she knew that the best way to support all her clients was through having access to a wider and more diverse mortgage market, so she chose to return to a role as a mortgage broker. This gained her valuable knowledge in sourcing the best mortgage deals for every individual client.

Being a professional and raising a young family is both challenging and rewarding. Charley knew that the professional and supportive ethos of the Mortgage Mum would be the perfect place to be able to build her career, to provide the best possible service to her clients whilst remaining present for her young family.

“I have always had an interest in mortgages ever since I was young, my own Mum was a mortgage broker and I have always been so inspired by her having her own successful career, while at the same time, always being available and supportive to me through my childhood. I hope that I can give my children that same inspiration and show them that it is perfectly possible and achievable to have a career that you love, while raising a family too – one thing doesn’t have to jeopardise the other. “

I love getting to know my clients properly, which means I can identify their needs and aspirations accurately. I get very invested in their journeys, and there’s no better feeling than when they pick up their new home keys or send you the photos of the long-awaited home extension. It really is a privilege to help people achieve their life changing goals.”

When Charley isn’t working you can find her out walking the dogs, camping with her family or taking a walk along the beach.

Katrina started her working life within finance. She bought her first house at the age of 18, giving her an early insight into the mortgage process. Her interest in the mortgage industry was further ignited by meeting a colleague’s husband who had an Independent Financial Advice (IFA) business, she then made the decision to study her mortgage and protection qualification alongside her current job.

Once qualified, she joined her friends IFA business as a self-employed Mortgage and Protection Adviser, she then took a break from the industry to have a family and become involved in her husband’s designer clothing shops – managing the finance, website, and marketing areas of the business.

She always had the niggle to go back to Mortgages but had not found the right fit until she stumbled across Sarah and The Mortgage Mum!

“I’m passionate about sourcing the right mortgage product for our clients and thinking outside the box to help make people’s dreams a reality, whilst keeping the process as seamless and stress free as possible”.

Having three boys and a football loving husband, her weekends are normally stood on the side of the pitch! She also loves going to the gym, running (not just around the boys!), has a keen interest in fashion, travel, and she enjoys socialising with friends.
