In August, The Mortgage Mum hosted its very first Family Fun Day—and what a day it was!

We gathered at Regent’s Park for a day filled with laughter, connection, and friendly competition. From classic sports day games for the kids to fun challenges for the adults, everyone got involved—including our fabulous sponsors who made the day extra special.

It was more than just a day out—it was a celebration of community, teamwork, and the values that make The Mortgage Mum family so unique, bringing the team and their families together!

A Special Collaboration with Virgin Money

One of our incredible sponsors, Virgin Money, brought something truly inspiring to the event: their Make £5 Grow programme.

This initiative shows how far £5 can go by encouraging children to think like entrepreneurs. Designed for primary school pupils, it teaches financial literacy and creativity, all starting with just £5. Through our partnership with Virgin Money, The Mortgage Mum is proud to offer this initiative for the first time ever to a group of children outside a primary school setting — The Children of The Mortgage Mum.

Sarah Tucker, CEO, said of the initiative  “The Children of The Mortgage Mum are so excited about this initiative and partnership and we’re so proud to be the first company to offer this outside a primary school setting. So grateful to Virgin for embracing the vision and making it happen with us!!! This is what it will take to change the education system for the better – collaboration – and we’re proud to be taking our own actions together with such a powerful, aligned brand”

What is Make £5 Grow?

Virgin Money provides resources and an optional £5 loan per pupil. Children use this seed money to create a product or service, sell it, and (hopefully) make a profit. Along the way, they learn:

  1. Budgeting – Planning how to spend and invest wisely
  2. Teamwork – Collaborating to bring ideas to life
  3. Marketing & Sales – Understanding how to attract customers
  4. Profit & Loss – Real-world financial concepts in action

Why It Matters

Over 200,000 pupils have taken part, learning skills that last a lifetime. Research shows:

  1. 83% of children aspire to start their own business
  2. 71% want to learn entrepreneurship at school
  3. 64% would rather invest £5 than spend it

This programme taps into that ambition, helping kids turn ideas into reality while building confidence.

How It Works

  1. Plan – Pupils brainstorm business ideas and create a plan
  2. Budget – Decide how to use the £5 loan for materials
  3. Create & Sell – Make products or offer services
  4. Evaluate – Repay the loan and celebrate profits

Virgin Money’s goal is simple: empower the next generation to manage money wisely and embrace entrepreneurship. It’s about more than £5—it’s about building financial resilience and creativity for the future.

Thank you to Virgin Money and all our sponsors for making this day unforgettable. Here’s to many more events that bring our community together!
